The 10th month was one of redemption for the Dream Team managerial class of 2016/17, as a number of slow starters confirmed their credentials and cemented their right to a position at the top table of internet-based pretend football management. At the same time, early high-fliers experienced an Icarus moment as their wings melted and they drifted helplessly towards the fiery pit of the newly-named “Sunderland zone”.

Chief among the high flying birds was Ryan’s Rangers boss Ryan Shaw, who progressed from a 10th place finish in August and 8th place in September to reach Number 1 with a bullet in October. Shaw refused to be interviewed in person, instead issuing a prepared statement (curiously dated March 2013) which included the phrases “chickens home to roost”, “hard work on the training ground”, “matter of time”, “contract extension” and “Christ, no – not the Yidos job!”.

Second in the monthly medal-chase was defending title-holder Moore-T, whose Tom’s Legends outfit secured a creditable 2nd place. Some would be silently satisfied by such an achievement, but the maverick mentalist declared an extra training session for his already nearly-dead squad, with a hedge-hopping 20 mile run and a “prize” of racing Bullet to the school gates for the last man home.

Meanwhile, erstwhile title-chasing The Rising Force and Conte Kante can only wonder where it all went wrong as they prop up the monthly table. CK manager Moore-A admitted that a mad transfer policy that saw him make all 3 changes as soon as the window opened for two months in a row may be, in some small way, responsible for the slump. However, when queried about future plans, he declined to comment – only saying “shite – the window’s open… time to go to work!”

As Morrissey once said, 'November Spawned A Monster' – so we can only Stretch Out And Wait to see what the new month brings.
